This historic event symbolized the beginning of a new chapter and paid homage to the years of perseverance and dedication of the trailblazers who laid the foundation over 50 years ago for the Tulane University National Pan-Hellenic Council. Their vision and persistence have created a legacy of empowerment and unity within the Tulane community. Broadmoor was honored to be part of this project and to support this vision.
The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) plots will serve as a public space at Tulane for students, alums, and community members to gather, celebrate, and reflect on the rich history and continued work of organizations within the NPHC.
The journey leading to this groundbreaking has been one of determination and resilience. The planning and preparation for this project was put into motion in 2019 by Raven Ancar, a then Tulane student and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority member. The roots of this endeavor run deep, stretching back 50 years within Tulane's rich history. At the heart of this milestone lies the profound significance of Black History Month. The groundbreaking ceremony was a poignant reminder of the transformative power of collective action and perseverance. Raven Ancar's reflections underscored the enduring legacy of those who dared to dream and demand more. From the first list of demands in 1968 to the present day, the journey towards equality and empowerment has been marked by resilience and perseverance. It is a tribute to the enduring spirit of the university community and the unwavering commitment to progress.
Originated in the 1930s at Howard University, NPHC plots were established to symbolically and physically represent the Divine Nine sorority and fraternity organizations, which include the Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Sigma Gamma Rho and Zeta Phi Beta sororities and the Kappa Alpha Psi, Omega Psi Phi, Alpha Phi Alpha, Phi Beta Sigma, and Iota Phi Theta fraternities.
Broadmoor's core purpose is to honorably serve our communities, a foundation, which encapsulates the spirit of who we are and the importance of what we do. Our commitment to this purpose sets us apart from others. We are honored to help deliver this project, recognizing the importance of what this project represents for the students, alums, and the community of Tulane University. It is a privilege to be entrusted with bringing to life a dream many have longed for.
The NPHC plots are a testament to our shared commitment to diversity, inclusion, and excellence. Together, we honor the past, celebrate the present, and embrace the future with optimism and determination. As we lay the foundation for the Tulane University National Pan-Hellenic Council project, let us carry forward the spirit of unity, resilience, and hope that together, we will continue to build a brighter, more inclusive future for generations to come.
