Shell Ursa Living Quarters
|
Shell Offshore's production of the drilling apparatus known
as a Tension Leg Platform, began an ongoing relationship with Broadmoor. As a subcontractor to J. Ray McDermott, Inc.,
Broadmoor provided construction services on four tension leg platforms. The
MARS, RAM-POWELL, URSA and BRUTUS projects were successfully delivered and are
operating on several deepwater drilling platforms in the Gulf of Mexico.
The architectural outfitting of the living quarters modules
which support the residents of the drilling rigs is not new to Broadmoor having
outfitted a similar unit for Freeport-McMoRan, Inc. as part of their Main Pass
Mine Sulphur platform in the Gulf. The
tension leg platforms are designed specifically for deep sea drilling,
operating in depths reaching 3,000 feet.
Broadmoor constructed the modules at the McDermott, Inc. Facility in
Amelia, LA.
