Located in historic
Covington, Christ Episcopal Church, a
historic landmark located on the Bougue Falaya River, required the
addition of much needed classrooms and support facilities that would support a
master plan for future additions and respond to the a critical time frame and
budget. The location next to the river
provided for a most interesting challenge which resulted in a raised structure
above the flood plane with connected walkways to the main facility which would
display a sensitivity to the surrounding wooded area and act as a backdrop for
the original church structure.
The result was a
rustic structure of treated woods and building materials similar to the church
building with covered walks that used the same structural framework reminiscent
of the existing structures. Particular
attention was given to safety and functionality of the building in response to
its new occupants – kindergarten and first grade children.
