demolition is now underway at a nine-story downtown office building that will
be part of a hotel property being developed by the Domain Companies, the
developers behind the South Market District project.
in a Joint Venture partnership with Palmisano Contractors, was selected as the
CM at Risk for the project in May of this year. Our team has started work to
clear office partitions and remove asbestos and lead paint inside the
136,000-square-foot building at 600 Carondelet Street in Downtown New Orleans.
Architectural firm Eskew+Dumez+Ripple is the design leader on the project.
construction is slated to begin by the end of this year and wrap up by the end
of 2015. The historically-protected building will receive a complete overhaul
to make room for a 234-room hotel with a rooftop pool. The team will restore
the exterior of the 80-year-old building to its historic condition by replacing
the ground floor storefront aluminum windows, recessing the entrance and adding
awnings. The building was formerly home to Max Barnett’s furniture store.
adjacent parking lot will become home to a modern, four-story addition, which
will include a restaurant and more hotel public space. The project also
includes the installation of a black and red neon sign to be hung over the main
excited to be a part of this project, continuing to expand on New Orleans’
hospitality offerings, and look forward to sharing more information about the
hotel operator, opening dates, etc. as they are released.
